In case you have not heard, the National Lacrosse League is coming to Wells Fargo Arena! On December 5, 2009 the Minnesota Swarm will host the Colorado Mammoth in the state's first professional lacrosse game.
The NLL plays a modified version of box lacrosse. Unlike the more prevalent version of the game known as field lacrosse, box lax is played indoors on a hockey rink-sized surface with six players on the floor as opposed to ten. Invented by Canadian ice rink owners nearly 100 years ago, box lax is a hybrid of hockey and field lacrosse. Line changes are on the fly and the scoring can get pretty crazy. Did I mention that fighting is allowed?!
The Swarm and Wells Fargo Arena are working with the Central Iowa Lacrosse Association and the Valley Tigers Lacrosse Club to ensure that the game is a success. We are coordinating efforts to spread the word about the game and to increase awareness of the sport in the metro area. I am currently working on getting Valley on the floor either at half time or immediately following the game. Iowa and ISU will play before the Swarm game.
Ticket prices range from $11-41. The Swarm games starts at 7:00. I am working on getting a group price through CILA and/or Valley. I expect to have fliers and information on hand this Wednesday at Bucs.
