Didn't the fall season last year start in the first of September? You would think the rink would put out some information by now. As to what times and what days. We are only four weeks away. People need to get their schedules set for work and would like to know when hockey is.

Looks like they posted something on the rink's page... http://www.dmicerink.com/registration/registrationforms.htm

Starts in October, goes through March.

What's up with the "manditory rating night" though? I would assume that means they are going to some kind of assessment of B, C & D players and determine which league they're allowed to play in? I'm sure this is a probably a big "no", but have any team captains received any info as to how this is going to work? I would hope they would still allow us to put together our own rosters?

WTF?? Are they going to limit the league? 1st come 1st serve? We've got 8 C league teams now, with probably 15-25 people ready to come out of D, plus all the people who are going to be coming back after taking the summer off. They're going to need to have a bare minimum of 10 teams, could probably go to 12 pretty easily. I'm going to email Kristina to ask for details.

It's a short time livin' and a long time in the ground.

1. They need more than one "Mandatory Rating Night." Some people have plans to be out of town for vacations (the people without school aged children) in place. Other people have other commitments, weddings, funerals, bar mitzvahs, grape harvesting, etc. How about a little flexibility? - The rating night was suggested at a C/D captain's meeting earlier this spring. It is a good idea, but odds are the jackasses at MISF won't be organized enough to pull it off.
2. The cost seems to have increased significantly since last season, and there is no mention of the guaranteed number of games.
3. 5:45 start time for C league? How many people can get to the rink in time for that game? I know Miller works in Grinnell and many other people may not get off until after 5.
Based on how their registration looks, they may not get increased participation, some people may intentionally suck it up at the rating, some people will miss the rating entirely, and others may quit the sport for now. God I hope somebody gets a league going elsewhere...

I could totally see 12 C league teams for the winter. Maybe it's time to coordinate something with the Bucs to have 3 games at KGGO and 3 games at MISF on Wednesday nights.

There were like 10 teams last fall, right? Between returning players and players moving up from D league, I could see 10, 12 teams easy. Hell, a good chunk of 11 to 7 will probably move up this fall. I'd say somewhere near 1/3 to 2/3 of the other three D league teams should move up if D league is to remain the "beginner" league. Of course, Tim talked about creating an "E" league for true newbies too. I am not happy about losing Sunday nights. How long had B league played on Tuesdays before the facility took over? How do they feel about moving to Sundays? Why is no one playing on Tuesday night? It seems to me that instead of a start time that conflicts with a lot of people's work schedules (5:45), the facility should look at how many teams C league should have and make it a two night league. Maybe have C and D league have games spread out over Tues, Wed, and Thurs? That way players can ref on their "off" nights and have a bit more energy?

No reply from Kristina yet.

I had heard something about them possibly using both sheets for C, so maybe they're planning to have 16 teams and 8 games a night?

As far as Tuesdays go, I think the youth travel teams take up all the ice time for practice.

It's a short time livin' and a long time in the ground.

Screw MISF...

If Joe Bafia or Joe Tufano are not interested, I would be glad to take on volunteering to setup a "C" league at Bucs arena. I would promise that I would not make any money at it, so it will be cheaper as we will split the costup evenly amoung whoever we get to sign up. Besides, the ice is cheaper there anyway.

I will contact the arena today and find out what nights of the week we could get ice. In the meantime, if anyone is, or is not interested, please post here. Joe, if you, or Tufano want to, or are already looking into this let me know and I will back off.

I just got an email from Joe. Looks like he's already on it. I'm guessing he'll post something here and on his blog. I haven't decided for sure, but my initial thought is that I'll probably do that one and the 3 on 3, play other tournaments as they come up, pay and play at the Bucs arena, etc., but not MISF. My November and December are really busy where I should (but probably wouldn't) miss a lot if not all of my games playing MISF.

I'm all about joining Joe's league. I know most of the Cup team is too. (Obviously the Alien teams) and I've heard that most of the current 11-7 team wants to leave MSIF too, but that has not been confirmed (I suppose Teal would have a better idea of the truth there). I know most of the people who are grumbling the most about MSIF are ready to move up to C anyway.
My concern now is for friends of ours who would enter at the D league level. Obviously they are not going to want to play at MSIF either. Will we let a few beginners into the league?

I really want to do the Chops league, but have to convince the wife. She pointed out that it is only 8 games. It may be a sweet deal, but I definitely want to play more (but not at the MISF if I can help it). I'm still down for a possible adult league at the Bucs. Is there a schedule for their pay and plays online somewhere?

Personally, MISF is not getting any more of my money. Luckily, I picked up playing goalie at the right time. I won't be skating in the upcoming season, just playing goal. I know I will miss skating, but I am not going to support that rink. I will, however, be supporting Joe and his tournaments and mini season. I am sure I am not the only one that would be glad to leave MISF in the past and move on to somewhere that actually cares about their players, their rink, and the leagues that play there.

So MISF is doing their evaluation night on during the first big weekend of college/pro football. Hmmm.. nobody's gonna have plans that weekend!

This is a new low for the league in terms of communication to the players. I'm an Alien guy, so I'll play whever the team decides to play, but if something gets organized at the Bucs rink, I know there will be a lot of interest and hopefully it will work out that the Alien teams are a part of that.

Anyone ever see those X-games commercials w/ Dark Mane? When I think of MISF management I picture him running the show.

I can't wait for the 8 week mini at WF!

Amen to that. I'm hoping that all of the douchebags who are loyal to MISF stay the hell away from Joe's leagues too. There are some real tools playing right now. I'm talking the C and D leaguers who think they are NHL material...
If I ran the checkbook, I'd already be signed up for the tournaments and miniseason. Unfortunately, my wife runs that show. She hates MISF too, but wants me to get the most for my money. We need another full league...

For those who haven't received the e-mail, Joe has sent out a notice that there's a C/D league being held at the WF Arena. With purchase of a ticket pack for the Iowa Chops, the players will be able to play on the ice in this league. It's open to the first 48 players and 4 goalies. It's an 8-week/game season and the lowest cost for a ticket pack is $252. This league will not interfere with the MISF Fall League schedule at all.

Please keep in mind that this isn't just a league fee: you're getting tickets for the Iowa Chops! I have the PDF file with the details available if you're interested. Just message me and I'll send it out.

Here's the reply I got back from Kristina: "I don’t want you to think that I am ignoring you but I am still in the process of working out some of these details. We are not limiting c league to 8 teams. We are not going to have a rating system. A lot of teams have made it clear they want to stay together as a team. We will probably offer a wed c and a Sunday c league. "

Not really sure what the point is of having a mandatory rating night is if they aren't going to have a rating system or breaking up teams. Good to hear that they may have 2 nights and more than 8 teams.

I talked with the folks at bucs arena. Like metro, they are taking on the leagues. In the past though, their league fees have been anywhere from $100 cheaper to half the cost for more games. I told them that there is a definite interest in a C league out there. They will be getting back to me. So... I would say... hold off on registering at metro until Bucs gets their info out. Probably in about 2 weeks she said.

If metros league starts the first week of oct. and ends the last week of March that is 12.50 per game. Bucs has always been $8 per game.

Just my 2 cents

I agree with score. Except the MISF is charging more than that. There are 26 weeks between Oct 1 & Mar 31. One week is Thanksgiving & one is Christmas. Traditionally, there are no games those weeks. That gives the league a max of 24 weeks/games (barring any random cancellations like we had this summer) for $350 which is about $14.60 per game. I guess that is what raising the league fee by $75 does for you...
Speaking of higher fees, I've heard that the broomball leagues got their rates jacked pretty good too. I haven't heard anything about youth hockey, but thank God the figure skaters' rates haven't gone up...
As of right now, there are a couple of conversations with the Bucs. I don't want to say too much, but they are looking at the possibility of a really small D league and a relatively small C league or a combined league due to limited space, but the early word is that if someone does the Chops league and the Bucs league, it will be just a little more than MISF. The locker rooms are bigger & better. Not to mention to superior parking lots, facilities, and ice...
Speaking of the Chops league, Joe is still looking for interested players and deposits. Here is a suggestion: get a non-playing buddy to pay half (buy the second seat). Then you are paying $126 for 14 Chops games and 8 league games while your buddy is getting a sweet deal on Chops tickets.
