Anybody have any to share? Something you eat before a game? Listen to a certain song on the way to the rink?

To start it off -I'm not really superstitious, but somehow I got in the habit of putting my stick in the car the morning of a "big" game.

I always have to make sure my pads are in the bag the "right" way and my sticks are properly taped before I leave home. When I get to the rink, I have to sit in a corner that faces the locker room door and hang up my jersey. My gear goes on like this: left shin, right shin, socks (tape the top over my thighs), breezers, skates (tied then roll down my socks and tape them. Then I stand up and tie & buckle my breezers before pulling up the suspenders. I put on my shoulders, left elbow, right elbow, left wrist, right wrist. I never put my right glove on ion the locker room. I cannot be the first or last person on the ice. I have a post game ritual too. Everything comes off in the exact opposite order and it has to go into my bag the "right way" again. I always double check before I leave.
My biggest superstition is skating through the crease. I never skate through the crease unless we are actively playing a game. If you see me at public skates or in warm ups, you'll notice my skates never enter the blue.

Hockey is love. Lacrosse is passion.

I'm not superstitious with anything outside of hockey and don't think I'll have a crappy game (or any more crappy than usual) if I don't complete one of my rituals, but I definitely have developed some rituals. I always try to eat venison on game day. I seem to eat more fish and seafood on game days also. I almost always stop at the QT on Meredith and Merle Hay for a fountain lemon lime Gatorade on the way to the rink. When we win, I wear the same pair of socks every game after that until we lose, then I start a new win streak with a different pair of socks. I also put the socks on in the morning and wear them all day. I usually take a long walk along the same route with my dog on mornings of a game. Oh, and I never have sex on game days. I figure that my puck handling and shot are weak enough already without having tired hands.

It's a short time livin' and a long time in the ground.

I never really had any rituals until I became a goalie. I have a certain stretching "regemin" that I always do and usually, it takes so long that I don't get many warm up shots on me. After the warm up buzzer, but before the game, I scrape up the crease going from the gloveside post to the stickside, then back the other way. During games, if I have to spit or if I drink some water and spit it out, I always do it to the right side of the crease (watch out over there). I have a few other little quirks, but nothing too crazy.

Those are some great responses.

A few things I do when in net are not really so much weird goalie rituals as they are physical impairments LOL. I stretch sometimes when play is on the other end of the ice as it helps me recover from being sore for so darn long the next day(s). I do stretch out 30-45 min before I get to the rink, but it's really not enough for my old arse.
The other is I skate out of the crease quite a ways so I can see the play better on the other side. I don't wear glasses or contacts when I play so this helps me see who's on the ice, whats going on, and the great saves the other goalie is making...especially Woody Board.

Tony - please feel free to elaborate on the "other little quirks".

Rituals start early morning of game day.
-5 Am run around Gray's Lake after downing 12 raw eggs (routine compliments of Rocky Balboa)
- Return home and nap until 11:40 am (don't forget store opens at noon)
- Intentionally forget sticks at home so I have to take a new one of the shelf each game
- Throughout the day when sharpening skates, make sure Alien Joe opponents get 1 1/2" goalie cut on skates
- No lunch game days..starve myself until 1 hour before game time, then slam #2 Value Meal at McD's with a coke
- Arrive just in time to rink to get the folding chair seat in shower stall
- Always last one out of locker room so I can go through teammates pockets for loose change
- Get on ice for 2 quick warm up laps, then argue with Topliff on what lines will be that game

Not too many goofy ones, but these get me focused.

That explains it. If you had the #4 value meal with an orange drink you'd be able to get more on that knuckle-puck wrister from the blue line.
I like that spot next to the stall but I'm going to formally request Tim upgrade the folding chair to a Lazy Boy.

Mine are very simple. All of the gear must be out of the bag before the first peice goes on. Take mask out of the bag and either on the bench to my left or on the floor always facing out into the locker room. Put on each glove as it comes out of the bag and then again either on the bench or on the floor on the side they go on. Pants, one sock then skate then the other side leg pads and then make jokes about some ones wife in the lockerroom.

A few more from me:

- When I eat before a game, I try to be done at least 2 hours before the puck drops.
- Put water bottle in the freezer 3 hours before I leave for the rink.
- Always pack my gear a certain way in the bag.

I do like to pack my skates a certain way in the bag, somehow thinking this will prevent edge damage. Not sure that I'd even notice it if it happened, but still.

Also, I rub Shane's belly for luck each game, like a Buddah.

I would have thought your post would include something about the "unlucky #13" you wear on your back.

Love your location, MISFit.

We could probably do another thread just on numbers. Although the only time I got to pick it was on the Silver Bullets, my preferred # would be 53 because that was my number back when dinosaurs roamed the earth and I played high school football. I don't have a favorite hockey number since I would be unworthy to wear any number used in the NHL.

My son has adopted 11 as his number in the last year. It's because #1 is the traditional goalie number, but he's been on some weak teams where he's had to face a lot of shots, so now he says he's number 11 because he makes as many saves as 2 normal goalies.

It's a short time livin' and a long time in the ground.

I think you should focus on PACKING your skates INTO your bag so as to not forget them and be forced to use rentals!

Crisis! I could only find one of my win-streak socks this morning. But I'm not superstitious anyway, so we'll be just fine.
