The city of Grimes made an outdoor rink. It is very big. It is at the Grimes sports complex. South of Highway 44 on James Street. (About a half mile south of the water tower.)
I plan to check it out Saturday.

Are they actually allowing hockey there? Let us know how the ice is please. It looks like mother nature is not cooperating enough for an actual pond (mind you I am not complaining as I prefer not having to drive in ice, snow, sand, and salt all winter like last year).
Hockey is love. Lacrosse is passion.

The ice was unexpectedly smooth in some places, but there was the normal outdoor ice ripples and holes.
I was able to hit a puck from one end of the ice to the other, so the ice did not slow the puck down that much.
I think it is very big, a lot bigger than an indoor rink. I would guess from one end to the other is at least 100 yards and maybe 50 yards wide.
We can play hockey on it. Anybody have any portable goals?

That would be great to get an outdoor game organized. I am sure there are a few people that have goals and trucks.

Thats awesome... I am in. I saw this past weekend the green flag is finally out at MacRea park on SW 9th. I was going to see if anyone wanted to get a game together this coming Saturday morning. Grimes works just as well for me. As long as we are on the same page so we dont end up at two different locations...

if anything gets set up in advance for a sunday morning sometime i could play goalie if any games are ever set up. i would need to know well in advance though because i would be coming from an hour away.

There is a lot of snow on the ice right now. It was cleared off on Sunday but they haven't remove the most recent snow. I will post again when the snow is cleared off.

I have a goal (with a vinyl goalie) but will be out of town. If someone wants to make arrangements to borrow it, that would be cool.
