I am just trying to point out the reason for the new rule. I am fine with the modified icing (when puck crosses line) or I am even fine with real icing where the puck has to be touched.
However when looking at the 2 blue line rule do not focus on just one skater, because it doesn't really matter, look at the number of B players on a team roster, the teams with the higher skill level benefit from more traditional icing rules. If you are the fastest skater you should retain possession and skate through the field so you can shoot on the goalie, rather than chasing down your own dump pass, and possibly letting the goalie ruin your plan.
The new 2 blue line icing rule benefits the teams that have the least amount of B league players.
Why?
Under the old C rule your passes have to be better a missed pass could be an icing. Better players can make these passes and keep their offenses flowing.
Now a lower skilled team, the passes will be slightly off, if the puck is just ahead of them then it is icing and a whistle. If there is no whistle the lower skilled team may not be the first to the puck, but they might be able to recover the puck from the other team before a breakout occurs.
As above I am fine with any of the icing rules, I do however like to skate and keep the game moving rather than line up for face-offs and have time running off the clock.

So whistling it dead when it crosses the line is not like real hockey but makes it so we don't have to charge after a puck every time. Thats NHL and AHL hockey. Every youth through college hockey league plays no touch icing. There is not a men's league in North America that would play touch up icing. Racing down to touch up an icing is one of the most dangerous plays in hockey. You are more likely to see checking in a men's league than you are to see touch up icing.

I expected more bickering over the hat trick rule, but icing appears to be in the lead.

I'll reopen the hat trick issue.
It changes my game... As a defensive shooter from the point, I shoot less in fear of the shot going in. I don't want to potentially have all my goals in the first period and not be able to score in the final minutes to win (or tie) a game.
I know thats a stretch, but a similar situation did happen against us. Mikey (from Alien Mike) had 3 goals one game against us. We were winning by 1 going into the last 2 minutes and he pulled himself off the ice becuase he knew he couldn't score. I didn't like that becuase it felt like we didn't beat his team because I want to go against the best skater on the ice and say we stopped him. In this case I felt like we won with an "*" because the best player was not allowed to shoot.
Changing the rules for safety I understand (icing, non-check, etc.), but to restrict a player from scoring is not fair.

As MLK, Jr. said (or something very close to this, which makes me think he would be against the current Affirmative Action situation), "If you are behind in a race, the way to win is to run faster than the person in front of you." As I've stated before, overall I like that it puts pressure on me to contribute more instead of relying on Mike. However, I would also argue that if you don't like getting lit up, play better defense, especially team defense. I think we held Blickley to 1 goal the second time we played them, because every time he got past one guy, 1 or 2 others picked him up. I/L did the same kind of thing to Mike last week. Whether we have the rule or not, I'm still going to play and savor every second of it.

Nate B here. I wanted to take my first post to weigh in on this rule. I agree with MOST of what's been posted (Joe, don't "*" our only victory, even if it is true!). If we have players that are consistently scoring more than 3 goals per game, that's a great sign that they don't belong in C in the first place. Ideally we shouldn't have too many players around that need this rule and if we do, then it's time for some promotions to B league.

Sorry Brando...didn't mean that our win wasn't earned...I know we owned that team all game and we were deserving of that win regardless of who was on the ice.
P.S. Bring your skates tonight if you can.
